What does an effective respirator training program entail as part of an RPP?
An effective respirator training program should cover the reasons for respirator use, how improper fit and usage can compromise protective effect, the limitations and capabilities of the selected respirator, how to inspect, put on and remove, use, and check the seals of the respirator. It should also include procedures for maintenance and storage, how to recognize medical signs and symptoms that may limit or prevent effective use of respirators, and the general requirements of OSHA's respiratory protection standard. Training should be comprehensive, understandable, and recur annually, or more often if necessary.
